RE: Jitterbug Cell Phone

From what i understand they are pretty straight forward and use the Verizon Network. Fees are clear and they don't have hidden charges. You won't the the 'cool' cell phones with all the features but that some folks perfer that. If you are a Good Sam member check out their offer...

RE: Dirt bike in the bed of the TV?

Interesting topic. I am in the same situation right now. I'd like to up size the TT to a 5er but I have a Quad that goes with us some of the time. Some day I'd like to get a motorcycle (street bike) too. I would not take BOTH at the same time. I have looked at the Keystone Raptors but even the smallest one is heavy for its size and it seems like a waste of space and money (a much nicer non-toyhauler can be had for the same or less money). In PA where double towing is NOT allowed. However, I have been told by a state trooper that the swivle wheel trailers are NOT considered trailers, hence they are legal. But i do have concerns about them too. Anyone have one?

ready to jump into a 5er...

Well after convincing the DW that we 'NEED' a new trailer and weeks of looking I am going to look at the final floor plan we wanted to see before making a final decision. We have the choices narrowed down to 3: Heartland's 3300RC Sundance, Keystone's 299MP Raptor or in a totally different direction Open Range's 337RLS. The first two are toy haulers. Last night the DW fell in love with the Open Range, which is why its on the list. Each has advantages and draw backs. I love the rear toy door Electric bunks and genny on the raptor BUTTTT it is pushing the limits of the TV and the most pricey of the 3. The Heartland looks (this is the one we haven't seen) looks like it is built very well and fits the TV like it was made for it. But the downers on it are side garage door, no genny (or even prep as an option). The side door will haul our quad (and the scooter I ordered SHHHH she don't know that yet). In my case the advantage of the rear door is that i can load my Kayaks in and let them come through the interior door to the living area to accommodate their 14' length. I guess I'd have to come up with something to haul the Kayaks on the truck, I have seen other's solution to this on here. which lets the Open Range. From the looks of it they are built VERY well the R-values are comparable to a full time 4 season rig, they are also very light and inexpensive for what they are. However, no room for my toys is a real problem. I guess I'd have to pick up on of the swivel wheel trailer things that are not a 'trailer' as defined by the Commonwealth of PA. Well anyhow any ideas, solutions or additional mfgs or floor plans that we should look at before pulling the trigger?

RE: **Stop a Divorce over ice**

I have a confession: I let melted ice (AKA WATER) in my cooler. There I said it, it feels as if a huge burden has just been lifted from me. Technically, its considered gray water. Dumping it out may or may not be illegal and/or a health hazzard. OK, EASY EVERYONE! just kidding.

RE: What are you towing with and what is your MPG

2500 6.0 Chevy gasser. 14 empty 10 loaded, Kayaks on ladder rack, 6000# TT. I have tried 65 and i have tried 55. Only a half MPG differance.

RE: Do you unhitch while Turtling?

Don't forget to plug the trailer back to the truck (personally i let mine connected). Also don't forget to unhook the electric and water. For me its easy to forget the above mentioned things because camping like this isn't my routine, i get confused when my system gets screwed up.

IS IT THURSDAY YET???

My official start to summer happens Thursday. The kiddies will be out of school and we'll be on the move. First stop Shannondoah Valley, for a few days, then on to VA beach for 8-10 days. After that we've got some things to do back here in PA for a week or so. then back on the road for 6 more weeks. Who knows OBX? Myrtle? Maybe even the FL keys depending on fuel prices. Perhaps if we get tired of the beach we'll head up to eastern KY. The DW has some family up there. We will be taking the kayaks and bikes. Any suggestions? Favorite places? Places to avoid?

RE: Late checkout

To stay late or not that is the question. sorry had to be a little poetic. Asking permission is the 'right' thing to do if you are talking about a few hours. if you are going to be 10 or 20 mins later then it would take you longer to ask then to just do it. For a few hours I'd always get permission, if we were talking about hotel room that you refused to leave and/or just hung around you'd have the cops called on you and/or be charged for a full nights stay. Which brings me to an interesting point. Why is there so much time between check out and checking? Most places say out by 11am and no one can come in till 3. What is the logic for the 4 hours? I am sure there are a few places who do (or some cases where they need to) but i have never seen a CG maintenance staff cleaning empty camp sites.

RE: Triple towing

Honestly, if it were me, I'd pick up an enclosed trailer big enough for the Jeep & the bikes. This sounds like the best solution for many reasons. 1)you'd have an inside storage bay for your bikes 2)you'd have extra storage for stuff in the trailer. 3)double towing/leangth not an issue, rig is backable and 50 state legal 4)I'd be willing to bet that fuel mileage isn't that much differnt than towing double.

RE: U-Haul or other hitch vs Honda?

The price from Uhaul isn't bad. The hitch sells for about $150 uninstalled.

RE: What If?

I see nothing wrong with it in theory. BUTTTTT the last time i watched someone do this the guy took the sewer hose put it up to the fresh water connection and rinsed the hose on the ground. Not only did he contaminate the tap but left hose cleaning water run on the ground. I now bleach the fresh water tap before i hook up.

RE: Scratch and Dent Sale

WOW, some don't have a scrach and others are on the roof. How does it pick which ones to flip and which to let alone? Tornados are one of the things that truly scare me.

RE: Backing in somebody else's rig

I've got mixed feelings on this one. Part of me says she shouldn't have had the rig out if she can't back it up. The other part of me says she most likely COULD if she had to. Either way you did the right thing by helping her out. I am sure karma will return the favor.

RE: how many of you have generators?

to me quiet hours are just that QUIET! I don't care if your genny is a the quietest one of the bunch. How would you like to be sleeping in a tent with that thing running? Sure the guy in the moho 3 sites down won't hear it but what about that guy tring to sleep in a tent 20 feet from your genny? Moral of the story, you can be just as big of a jerk with a $1000 genny as you can with a $250 one.
